Getting a good night's sleep is the best thing that you can do for yourself, especially on the night before your wedding.

However, it can be difficult to actually get a good night's sleep because of the multitude of demands on your mind in the last hours before your wedding. You are likely to be more stressed out and anxious because of everything on your mind, and you are not going to be the only one.

So, Why do you need a full nights sleep before your wedding day?

Weddings are so busy. You have so much to take care of, no matter how organized your wedding is, and everyone is focused on you.

Weddings are a combination of event planning, traveling, and relative wrangling. You might find yourself worrying about what you want to be your relatives might say, or if you turned on the security system before you left home.

Therefore, you need to be at your best. in order to be at your best all day long, you are going to need a full night’s sleep.

Why is it more difficult for you to get sleep when you are stressed?

Being stressed can delay sleep by several hours. Your central nervous system releases adrenaline and cortisol, hormones that cause your heart rate to increase, triggering the fight or flight response.

This can delay sleep by even longer, and can cause sleep deprivation in the long term. This can do damage to your sleep schedule and circadian rhythm, making it harder for you deal with stress during the day.

That brings to mind our next question: What can you do to minimize the effect of stress on your sleep?

If you can, try and delegate the parts of the wedding that are giving you the most stress. That’s the entire point of having a wedding party!

Meditation has been found make people focus on the present, rather than their anxieties about the future or past.

Spending 10 to 30 minutes a day practicing mindfulness for bed can help you to reduce the amount of stress you're feeling at that time.

It is also helpful to spend 30 minutes to an hour doing light physical activity such as jogging, yoga or swimming. Physical activity isn't going to cure your anxiety entirely, but it will make it easier for you to handle the stress levels that you have.

You should also set a strict limits on how much time you are spending working on wedding things in the weeks before your wedding. This is the same as taking work home with you, except instead of getting a paycheck, you're planning one of the biggest events of your life. If you can avoid doing work before bed, it will make it easier for you to wind down and sleep well.

Put your phone and planner away for a few hours before bed, and spend that time doing something relaxing, like taking care of yourself or spending time with your partner. It will be significantly better for you in the long run.
